Research Interests

HBV and HCV infections and their severe complications with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma are ones of major issues in medicine. Hosts and viruses play distinctly important roles on mechanism of viral invasion, disease progressi treatment response. Our laboratory focuses on the interaction of immunologic and genetic characteristics between hos genomes, via integrating clinical and basic researches.

  1. Hepatocellular carcinoma-associated single-nucleotide variants and deletions identified by the use of geno high-throughput analysis of hepatitis B virus: We initiate NGS researches in hepatobiliary diseases. Based on our on studying HBV and hepatocellular carcinoma, we are enthusiastic and confident to accomplish this research project great significance from either academic or medical angle.
  2. Clinical significance of serum hepatitis B virus RNA in chronic hepatitis B patients receiving long-term nucl analogue therapy, with further investigation of hepatitis B virus covalently closed circular DNA biology: Curren B virus (HBV) therapies rarely achieve a cure of chronic HBV infection due to the presence of covalently closed circula (cccDNA). Serum hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis B core-related antigen (HBcrAg) reflect transcriptio intrahepatic cccDNA and are useful biomarkers during and after cessation of antiviral therapy. Recent studies showed HBV RNA is associated with treatment responses and viral rebound after withdrawal of treatment. However, the kinetic HBcrAg, and HBV RNA during and after cessation of antiviral therapy remained to be determined. This study will help understand the impact of nucleos(t)ide analogues treatment on HBV life cycle and cccDNA biology.
  3. To investigate the role of microbiota in liver tissue, stool, and oral cavity and their relevant factors among p HCC or CCA and to seek the biomarkers of postoperative recurrence:Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) are the most frequently occurring types of cancer. Together, they are among the most common incident cancers worldwide. There are a number of modifiable an nonmodifiable HCC and ICC risk factors that have been reported. Gut dysbiosis could increase the permeability of the resulting in translocated bacteria and leaked gut-derived products which can reach the liver through the portal vein, an to increased oxidative stress and inflammation, thereby threatening liver health. Although bacterial translocation was fo chronic liver disease, the role of microorganisms located in the liver, which is correlated with carcinogenesis and recurr to be determined. This project aims to identify key microbiota-host interaction pathways and biomarkers associated wit types of liver cancer and postoperative recurrence by using multi-source clinical specimen, including liver tissue, stool tongue samples, and serum/plasma. The alteration of gut microbiota in sample tissues will be analyzed using both 16S and shotgun metagenome data. The association among the alteration of gut microbiota, microbial metabolites, intestin permeability, inflammatory parameters, and viral variants will be communicated.
